The leather products you find here are all handcrafted and 99.9% hand stitched or laced. I say 99.9% because I have tried to use my machine on a couple of the items but prefer doing it by hand.
The benefit of hand stitching is that I use the saddle stitch method. This is a stitch that a machine cannot replicate. It is basically two separate threads going in one side and out the other side of the leather. With a traditional sewing machine stitch, the thread is locked in place from the other thread on the opposite side of the leather. The result is ok but do you remember having that stray thread on a shirt and you pulling on it? the stitch can come apart in a hurry. This is not possible with a saddle stitch since the thread passes completely through to the other side. Saddle stitching is more time consuming but you get a stronger product and one that has a little character too.
